A veterinary referral is needed before the veterinary physiotherapist treats the animal in accordance with the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966. Please ensure you have completed a veterinary referral form beforehand - we can help you with this.
Class IV laser treatments are performed by the veterinary physiotherapist and your dog would have had a veterinary physiotherapy session prior to this to determine appropriate treatment protocols.
Laser sessions last 15 minutes, within this session the main painful areas are treated. Generally a course of laser treatment works by 3 appointments in one week, two in the second week and then in the third dropping to one, then the therapist will determine a protocol going forwards, to meet the individual needs of your dog.
Both therapies can be used on the same day if the therapist deems it appropriate for your dog. It has been found using these therapies together is very beneficial.
We only offer laser therapy before your hydrotherapy session however, so your dog is dry for their laser session. Otherwise the laser can heat the water on your wet dog and not be as effective.
We use laser therapy in most veterinary physiotherapy appointments anyway as this is included as part of the treatment.
Laser therapy emits light energy which is absorbed by the dogs cells. This causes a cascade of reactions within the dog which stimulates their own repair system.
