In your pets pain clinic appointment, it will include a comprehensive assessment by our vet team. They’ll discuss your pet’s history and home environment, review your pet’s medication and perform a physical examination. This physical exam will then be repeated after fitting the PainTrace® . Our team will then discuss our findings and create a PainTrace® report and then recommend a course of treatment that’s best for your pet. This can include acupuncture, physiotherapy and or hydrotherapy treatment at our clinic and lifestyle and dietary changes.
The PainTrace® is a wearable monitor that quantifies both acute and chronic pain. Skin mounted sensors are fitted to the arm pit region to give real time readings of pain levels, these sensors pick up biosignals generated by the nervous system.
During the exam, the PainTrace® will be fitted and then a physical exam performed including getting your dog to perform exercises. From this the PainTrace® gives real time readings of base line chronic pain and will spike if acute pain occurs. We use the PainTrace® as a supplementary tool to our original physical exam. It is especially useful for those dogs that are very stoic or presenting with subtle signs or behavioural issues. It is also a good additional tool to use to give us an idea if new pain relief is working effectively.
Acupuncture is the practice of inserting a vert fine needle through the skin at specific points on the body to stimulate the nervous system, blocking pain and encouraging the body to release natural pain killers and promote the natural healing process.
Acupuncture can help "reset" the nervous system, which has become overly sensitised over time. By calming nerve activity and promoting natural healing, acupuncture helps break the cycle of persistent pain and restore comfort and function. It also improves circulation, relaxes muscles and stimulates the release of the bodies own anti-inflammatories.
